1. Who needs a visa to enter Australia?

All persons who are not Australian citizens or New Zealanders need a visa to enter the country whether as a tourist, student or on business.

Since the Tourist Visa is intended for people who wish to visit Australia for tourist activity, visit friends or relatives or for study for a maximum of 12 weeks.

2. What documentation is required to apply for an Australian visa

  • Declaration of Financial Support with notarized signature (if someone is going to pay for the trip)
  • Letter from the employer stating position, length of service, salary and vacation period or the company’s articles of incorporation, if it is a partner-owner;
  • Proof of enrollment from school or university;
  • Proof of permanent visa, if you are not a national of the country in which the applicant will apply for the visa;
  • Evidence of financial availability or access to available financial resources, from the applicant or from the person providing financial support, sufficient to carry out the trip.
    If the applicant is receiving financial support, he/she must also present a notarized statement confirming the person’s willingness to pay for the trip. Evidence of financial availability may include, but is not restricted to:
    – three last paychecks;
    – current income tax return;
    – bank statements of checking account or fixed income investments for the last three months; and
    – credit card statements for the past three months.

3. How do I get an Australian visa?

  • Invitation Letter + copy of the host’s visa/passport or resident card (if received by family or friends)
  • Motivation Letter in English
  • Copy of approved visas, and/or international travel stamps.
  • (Students) Regular Student Statement OR Academic Transcript
  • Copy of certificates of studies or previous work
  • Birth or Marriage Certificate of the main applicant
  • Evidence of sufficient English level for the course (according to immigration criteria, if requested)
  • Declaration of Financial Support with notarized signature (if someone is going to pay for the trip)
  • Complete Income Tax Return
  • Bank Statements of the last 4 months
  • (Employee) Paychecks for the last 03 months
  • (Entrepreneur) Company Documents (Social Contract, 03 last Pro-Labores and CNPJ)
  • Copy of the International Yellow Fever Vaccine Certificate
  • Copy of children’s birth certificate – if you have one.
  • The financial documentation to be submitted must be from the applicant and its financial sponsor – where applicable.

5. How much does an Australian visa cost?

It depends on the type of visa you want. For a Tourist Visa, at the moment (2017) it costs 140 Australian Dollars. For the Student visa the value is A$560. All fees must be paid online, on the page of Immigration Department, with an international credit card.

6. How long does it take to apply for an Australian visa

Normally, the estimated time to apply for a tourist visa is 2 to 10 days. Once the visa is approved, you will receive a notification explaining everything (expiration time and entry requirements) about the authorization to visit Australia.
The entire process is done electronically, in this way NO you must send your passport by mail, and you will not have a stamp or label in your passport until you enter the country.
