COVID-19 Financial hardship support

We understand that COVID-19 has meant that some of our members are doing it tough and that a little bit of simple can go a long way right now.

So, we’ve got two financial support options available to members who have been impacted:

  • Financial Hardship Policy Suspension – policy suspension which allows you to put your policy on hold for a period of time
  • Partial Premium Assistance – a 50% reduction of your premium for 6 months.

See below for more information and how to apply. You will only be able to take up one of these options at a time. These options are temporary and subject to change, so visit this page to stay up to date.

To process your application, ahm will collect certain information about you (including the information described above). ahm will use this information to confirm your eligibility and contact you to discuss your application if required. We may be unable to process your application without this information. Our privacy policy has further information about how we handle personal information, how you can seek to access to or correct your information, or how to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Please note these options are only available to resident ahm private health insurance covers. If you hold an ahm Overseas Student Health Cover, contact us on 134 148 to discuss your membership.

How to choose the best financial support option

Policy suspension:

A Policy Suspension is where you put your policy on hold for up to 3 months at a time. You can apply for 3 separate suspensions for a total suspension period of 9 months. No premiums are payable to ahm during the time your policy is suspended, but it means that no benefits are payable for any services received during this time. Periods of suspension do not count towards waiting periods.

If you hold hospital cover, suspending your cover may mean you’re subject to the Medicare Levy Surcharge for the time of your suspension. More information on tax.

This cannot be used in conjunction with any other form of financial support offered by ahm.

Partial Premium Assistance:

Partial Premium Assistance will reduce the premiums you need to pay to ahm by 50% for a period of six months. Your policy will still be active, which means you will still be able to make claims for included services.

This cannot be used in conjunction with any other form of financial support offered by ahm.
